WHO Information System to Control/Eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases (WISCENTD)
WHO Information System to Control/Eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases (WISCENTD) is a platform for consolidating data coming from various data sources regarding the status and trends of neglected tropical diseases in the world. WISCENTD has been developed in collaboration between NTD department at WHO and DTIM research group at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
The main objective of WISCENTD is to provide a unified view of NTD-related data to epidemiologist, researchers, Ministries of Health, and other interested parties, in order to evaluate the current status of diseases throughout the world and predict future trends. The ultimate goal of WISCENTD is to facilitate the control and elimination of NTDs in different regions.
WISCENTD ecosystem encompasses three main layers:
- Data sources from where the NTD-related data are collected (research databases, publication repositories, event management systems, outbreak alerts systems, etc.). In particular, two important data sources that are as well built within the collaboration between NTD-WHO and DTIM-UPC. WHO Integrated Data Platform (WIDP) and WHO Integrated Medical Supply System (WIMEDS).
- Consolidated database that stores all NTD-related data for further use.
- Data exploitation tools to which can be plugged to WISCENTD to further use the collected data for analysis, visualization, and other exploitation actions.
WHO Integrated Data Platform (WIDP)
WHO Integrated Data Platform (WIDP) is a platform for facilitating routine surveillance and data collection at WHO. WIDP is based on District Health Information System (DHIS2).
WHO Integrated Medical Supplies System (WIMEDS)
WHO Integrated Medical Supplies System (WIMEDS) is a web-based system for facilitating the forecasting, requesting, and stocking of medical supplies for Neglected Tropical Diseases.
WISCENTD Consolidating Data (WICD)
WISCENTD Consolidating Data (WICD) is a subsystem for systematically extracting and storing collected NTD-related data in a centralizes storage. It consists of a repository of data and a set of data source-specific extraction drivers to facilitate data ingestion.
